4 Vegan Sauce Recipes to Dress up Any Meal

10 Jun

Sauces are a great way of adding flavor and complexity to a dish.  A simple meal such as veggies and rice can work as a blank slate and be transformed with the addition of a flavorful sauce or marinade.  When I’m doing my meal prep, I whip up a batch of one or two of these sauces to have on hand for meals throughout the week.  This makes it really easy to throw together a quick, delicious meal.  Each one is inspired by a different cuisine in order to give a global flair to my dishes.  Here are four of my favorite sauces…

1.  Tahini Garlic Sauce – Middle East inspired

I’ll admit, I have a slight addiction to tahini.  Lately I have been putting it on everything.  The lemony and garlicky sauce lends itself nicely as a salad dressing or drizzled over roasted vegetables

Tahini Garlic Sauce

1/2 cup tahini

3 tbsp water

Juice of 1/2 lemon

1 tbsp garlic powder

Sea salt to taste

2.  Dijon Balsamic Vinaigrette – French inspired

This clearly is a makes a great salad dressing, but it could also be used as a marinade for grilled vegetables.  The sugars of the balsamic will caramelize and the acid of the vinegar will balance out the sweetness.  Marinate some veggies in this and throw them on the grill, yum!

Dijon Balsamic Vinaigrette

1 cup balsamic vinegar

1/4 cup liquid aminos

1/2 cup brown mustard seeds

1/2 cup yellow mustard seeds

1 tbsp dried rosemary

3.  Pistachio Pesto – Italian inspired

Pesto is not only a delicious topping for pasta, it also perfectly compliments grilled vegetables and can add an interesting component to soups.

Pistachio Pesto

2 cups basil leaves

1 cup pistachios

1/4 cup olive oil

4 cloves garlic

Sea salt to taste

~ Place all ingredients into your food processor and pulse until smooth

4.  Spicy Peanut Sauce – Thai inspired

This sauce over noodles is really all you need.  If you want you can add vegetables to it as well.  I used it here in my recipe for Thai Peanut Noodles, but it would also make a great dipping sauce or stir fry sauce.

Spicy Peanut Sauce

1/2 cup peanut butter

3 tbsp tamari

1 tbsp coconut milk

Juice of 1 lime

Dash cayenne pepper
