Boost your Creativity with Food

In my life I have been blessed with the opportunity to meet all different kinds of people. Having a non traditional job where I’m always out in the field, I have come across so many wonderful and talented people and see the unique talents that lie in each of them. Imagine what could happen, I wondered, if all of these people came together to challenge, inspire and uplift each other. The things we could create both personally and as a group know no limits.

A few weeks ago, I opened up my home to all these great people I knew to work on whatever project they had going on at that time.  The projects were all different, but having other people there to bounce ideas off of and offer their perspective proved to be beneficial to everyone.

As snacks for this creativity session, I provided foods which promote healthy brain function and increase focus. Here is what was on the menu and the benefits you get from each of them:


Blueberries – Loaded with antioxidants which are known to boost focus and protect against disease

Dark chocolate – Flavonol boosts the circulatory system, increasing the amount of blood that reaches the brain

Almonds – The vitamin E which they contain leads to less cognitive decline and the protein stimulates your brain neurons

Kale – It contains antioxidants which protect the brain, B vitamins that help memory and focus and folic acid to improve mental clarity

Green tea – The caffeine content raises alertness, while the l’theanine increases tranquility and releases the caffeine more slowly.

Another equally important thing I had available at my work session was a hula hoop, foam roller and yoga mat. It is important, especially when working on a creative task, to get up every so often and move around. The physical activity gets the blood moving and releases endorphins which improves the mood and allows people to have more creative thoughts.

Whether your work is an organized spreadsheet or a painting, creativity is important and should be fostered in order to put out your best work.
